Interview: Michael Noe
Book Name and Description: Legacy 2
Legacy 2. Take a front row seat into the theater of mayhem and witness one man’s final journey to finish the legacy he created many years ago. Kevin’s death was only the beginning but now one man comes face to face with his demons as he descends deeper and deeper into madness and mayhem. Step inside the killing fields if you dare…
What gave you the idea for your book?
I’ve always been fascinated by serial killers and the first book was just my way of telling a great serial killer story without any filler. You always have stories about serial killers, but then you usually have the subplot of a detective determined to catch him. I wanted to get inside the killer’s head. With the sequel it’s a continuation of that but darker and little more disturbing. If you’ve read the first book you’ll know who the book is focused on as well as the need for a sequel.
What got you into writing horror?
I have always been a horror fan. A lot of my influences are horror films, but what got me into the writing side of it was Stephen King. I read Pet Sematary when I was twelve and I suddenly knew that I wanted to write.
How long have you been writing?
Off and on since I was twelve. I was a father and married so there wasn’t enough time to devote to writing so I ended up quitting but about three years after my wife and I split up I wanted to see if I could still do it and well here I am.
Tell us about your past books and stories?
I have a ton of short stories in different JEA anthologies. They really allowed me to grow and then I started working with Jaded Books Publishing and have some stuff in their Busted Lip Anthology, The Masters Of Metal Anthology as well a few others. I have Legacy and an upcoming short story collection called Insecure Delusions coming out on October 6th
What is the writing process like for you? What is your writing day like?
I have a full time job so I have to fit my writing in around that so it’s kind of scattered. I don’t have a routine in place.
What is your favorite book (other than your own book, of course) and why?
I have so many. I could be here all day, but Come Out Tonight by Richard Laymon, and Pet Sematary are two of my favorites and a huge influence on my writing.
What are you doing next?
I have a short story collection called Insecure Delusions coming out on October 6th and I’m currently working on a new book called Birthright.
What advice would you give aspiring writers?
Write, and believe in yourself. So many people are going to tell you that you’re not going to make it, but your job is to prove them wrong
