Welcome everyone to today’s interview with L. Bachman, author of the Blasphemer Series.

Book Description Maxwell Demon:

Interview:

What gave you the idea for Maxwell Demon series?

I actually started working on the series that includes Maxwell Demon when I was still a young writer, developing characters and plots I wanted to work with, but back then it was a form of escaping and creating for me. Maxwell Demon, the story, came about because I had several ideas that I wanted to work on, but couldn’t get to fit right, then like a lightning bolt it hit me and I couldn’t stop until I was done. I completed this first installment within a month.

What got you into writing horror/supernatural thrillers?

I struggled to figure out what genre my stories fit in best. I began writing things from my past and then eventually it turned into writing my nightmares out with flourishes. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it became very therapeutic for me to write about things that scared me.

What else have you written?

I’ve written several short stories, some are included in anthologies already published, such as The Painting of Martel can be found in a collection called Painted Mayhem that is raising funds for those living with PTSD, my short called The Gaze of Destruction can be found in a collection called And The World Will Burn, that is raising money for Amputee Coalition of America. I have independently published a short story called Human Ouija that I’m proud to say is my first story to read the top 100 best sellers on Amazon.

Besides my short stories work, I’ve published the first book of my series entitled The Blasphemer Series, Maxwell Demon, and hopefully this August I’ll be adding the second book of the series into publication, it is called Harvest.

What is the writing process like for you? What is your writing day like?

I usually begin with scribbling down notes, ideas, character’s appearances, or even lines of dialogue that pop into my head. I do a bit of research I need to get a better visual idea of what I’m trying to capture properly and then wing-it. I have noticed every story comes with a different way of working on it for me. Some need more research whereas some just flow out of my fingers into my programs with easy.

A writing day for me is dotted with note scribbling and balancing my family life, other work projects, and writing until I want to continue writing and stopping myself. I’ve found if I leave a story at a point I’m eager to continue it’ll help me get back to writing easier when I finally can get back to it.

What is your favorite book (other than your own book, of course) and why?

It’s hard to pick just one favorite, but I’ll always have a love affair with Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. This was the first book of its kind I had read and it was also the first of numerous reads that I realized maybe I could do this writing ‘thing’ too.

What are you doing next?

I just submitted a short story to another anthology called ‘Crossroads in the Dark: Urban Legends’ the story is called A Farmhouse Haunting. That’s coming out in the wintertime along with a two for one set I’m working on of Maxwell Demon AND Harvest, so book one and two will be able to be purchased together, but I wanted to really give the readers something they’d want and in my fan group I’ve had a poll going on asking the members there what they’d like to have included so that it’s really customized toward those that love what I’m doing. I have several short stories still being written, I’m very excited about all of them, I think readers that have becomes fan of my work will be pleased.

I’m also working with an amazing guy named Tristian Doe on getting Maxwell Demon into audio book format, I’m super excited about this! I’ve spoken with him at length and he not only be doing Maxwell Demon, but the entire series as I get them published out!

What advice would you give aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. I get really emotional when it comes to writing because it’s simply done so much for me personally and professionally. I did stop writing for a long time and I can still remember my husband’s words to this day, ‘Where’d my wife go?’ He used to say he’d lost the woman he’d married because I had stopped writing, but when I began again he said, ‘There’s my wife.’ It’s a big deal for writers to have a supportive spouse that understands the ups and downs of not only the process, but the toil it takes on us.

If it gets hard and it will, just keep going, scribble everything down even if it seems unimportant because that little note may be the perfect thing you need one day. I have tons of things organized up, tons of memo sticky papers, and tons of notebooks full of randomness that may never see the light of day, but because I just never know I save it all and this is something I suggest. Don’t give up and save it all up! That dirty napkin you wrote on three years ago may very well be the one thing that gets you out of a writer’s block.
